Not being a sys admin or W2K3 expert, I can only suggest some things I might try. 1) If you weren't using an account with local admin rights, I'd try that I think we'll convert these to XP. If that isn't the case, then can you send me email and we'll have someone help debug it to figure out what is wrong. So, I suppose it could be scripted, and let you make more attempts. 4) If there were any add-ins you had to VS 2005, did you remove them 1st? weblink
Intresting... Thanx in advance, Pieter Pieter Siegers - Friday, December 22, 2006 11:39:14 PM I encountered several breaking errors when downloading sp1 directly in IE. Thanks, Stendal Stendal - Wednesday, December 20, 2006 2:31:02 PM Hi Stendal, Can you try uninstalling the VS 2005 Web Deployment Project, and then installing it again? It's a really poor user experience, when we are spending up to $5000 on our MSDN licenese, and we lose hours of productivity on our development machine. https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/heaths/2007/01/11/known-issues-with-visual-studio-2005-service-pack-1/
Unfortunately, on Win2K3 SP1 / R2 the workaround doesn't always work. I have downloaded the executable for VS2005 Professional but when I try to run it I am getting the error message: "C:\VS80sp1-KB926601-X86-ENU.exe is not a valid Win32 application." It works fine with SP1 though. On top of this the local Software Restriction Policies doesn't seem to take affect at all. Anyway, I found the solution here: Visual Studio 2005 Professional SP1 fails to install . You can find the feature and component states in a verbose log during the InstallValidate action.

Running the web application project installer failed to restore it. We are working on getting a fix on XP and 2003 as mentioned in this post under the "error 1718" heading but risk is always a factor. 10 years ago Reply https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/928957 On Windows Server 2003 there is often more fragmented memory so there is not enough contiguous memory for SAFER to work as designed and implemented on XP and 2003. We are going to give people a month or so to report any new issues, and then release this as an RTM patch as well. We followed the instruction on the support page provided but did not help.
